A Premier League footballer who is currently out on bail amid two allegations of rape is now being investigated for a third alleged sexual offence. The Metropolitan police revealed in a statement that they had interviewed the player under caution for a sexual offence that was alleged to have occurred in Barnet in February 2022. The offence relates to a third victim and was reported to police in July 2022. An investigation is currently ongoing.
The player was initially arrested in July on suspicion of raping a woman in June 2022. He was then further arrested on suspicion of two more incidents of rape against a different woman, alleged to have occurred in April and June of 2021. The force confirmed in late July that no further action would be taken regarding the June 2021 allegation because the relevant legislation had not yet come into effect at the time it was said to have occurred.
Investigations into the two remaining allegations have continued, and now the latest case has been added to the ongoing investigation. The player, who has not been named for legal reasons, has been a regular member of his club’s first team throughout the season. The club confirmed in July that he would not be suspended and would be considered for selection until further notice.
The player’s bail, which was extended several times, is currently in effect until July. The most recent extension was made in January. The situation is ongoing, and no further information is currently available.
