Sergio Busquets will miss Barcelona’s next La Liga game against Athletic at the Camp Nou after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Elche.
The midfielder was booked in the 68th minute for a pull on Antonio Barragán and earns an automatic one-match ban.
Miralem Pjanic looks the most likely player to benefit from Busquets’s suspension as Barca take on Athletic for the third time this month on January 31.
Barca will have Lionel Messi back for the game against Marcelino’s men after he completed his two-match ban on Sunday for his red card in the Super Cup final.
Barca do have a game before Sunday’s match. The team play their eighth away game in a row at Rayo Vallecano in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday before finally heading back to the Camp Nou.
