MANCHESTER CITY VS ASTON VILLA
On Sunday, Aston Villa will visit the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City’s final-day showdown with the Premier League champions.
The Citizens currently lead Liverpool by one point at the top of the table, while the Lions have the slightest chance of finishing in the top half.
Pep Guardiola’s side only needed a point this weekend had they won against West Ham United, but a disjointed team went 2-0 down to Jarrod Bowen’s brace before Jack Grealish and a Vladimir Coufal own goal did the trick for the league leaders.
Whatever the result of Liverpool’s game with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, Man City would win the Premier League trophy for the sixth time in 11 seasons, and a draw would also suffice should Jurgen Klopp’s side slip up.
City have now scored at least twice in seven of their last eight Premier League matches, and their unbeaten run in the top flight now stands at 11 games. Guardiola will definitely not set his side up to draw, though.
The Citizens have also won three consecutive home matches against Brighton & Hove Albion, Watford and Newcastle United in the past few weeks – scoring 13 goals and allowing just one back – and Guardiola’s 100% record of five wins from five on the final day is also at stake.
Despite never winning a Premier League title with Liverpool, Steven Gerrard now has the chance to win the title for Liverpool, who are counting on their legendary midfielder to silence the Etihad crowd with his tired legs on the final day.
